#NormalizingHIVChallenge addresses HIV stigma in social media
#NormalizingHIVChallenge resurfaced, providing an avenue for relevant conversations circling on the stigma and discrimination experienced by PLHIVs in the Philippines.
The article published by ABS-CBN News "Standing up to HIV stigma through social media" highlighted the different interventions to forward the campaign against stigma and discrimination. For TLF Share, helping end the stigma means conducting community-level legal literacy training or rights education through the TLF CARE Program (Online Legal CARE).
According to Noemi Leis, TLF Share's program manager, being knowledgeable on your rights as a person living with HIV will help in increasing awareness, empowering oneself, and encouraging them to get treatment.
"Through rights education, nalalaman nila yung mga nangyayari sa paligid nila, yung pakiramdam nila, yung nangyayari sa pamilya hanggang sa lumabas ng bahay hanggang sa school, nare-realize nila na natatapakan na pala yung kanilang karapatan or nadi-discriminate na sila."
The article also covered the Southeast Asia Regional Workshop on HIV-related Stigma and Discrimination held on July 6 to 8 in Bangkok, Thailand, and attended by journalists, health advocates, and government representatives.
